Hi, I’m Maurice. 👋
Who I Am
My name is Maurice and I serve President/CEO of the Joint Learning Initiative on Faith and Local Communities. This year, I’m walking to support our work. JLI is a leading global provider of research, evidence, learning, and capacity sharing that strengthens practical religious engagement strategies for faith and development actors around the world.
JLI helps bridge research and practice so that local faith communities, global organizations, and policymakers can respond more effectively to the world’s most pressing challenges. I believe in the power of evidence-informed action, and I’m walking to help ensure this work continues to equip leaders both locally and globally.
Why I’m Walking (20 Miles Across New York City)
On Monday, April 27, I walked 20 miles across New York City to raise awareness on hunger, poverty, and injustice. Instead of me walking 100 miles in 5 days, we turned it into a collective, global effort with members of our community each walking 10–20 miles in their own locations, together going the extra 100 miles for JLI. The 100 Mile campaign aims to strengthen interfaith collaboration beyond transactional partnerships and elevate the role of faith in climate action and community resilience.
Walking Route – New York City
We began at 8:00am in Upper Manhattan, headed south along the Hudson toward the World Trade Center area, and then made our way back uptown along the East River, finally finishing at the Church Center at the UN, where we held a small reception on the 9th floor from around 3:30–5:30pm.
